Valentine’s Day Gifting
Less than a month away is a holiday that fills some with love, some with dread, and others with an ambivalent, in-between feeling: Valentine’s Day! I have fond memories of decorating shoeboxes with hearts and glitter, making a small slit where my fellow classmates could insert Valentines, but when you get older, the holiday takes on a new meaning and I find myself with that in-between feeling. My beau and I usually keep it low-key, sometimes exchanging handmade gifts or eating dinner at home, because of course in New York, restaurants and night spots will milk you for all you’re worth on Feb. 14. With that, if you participate in the holiday-giving, keep “handmade” in mind.
-Indie Fixx has a great Valentine’s Day Gift Guide and a fabulous Giveaway -Feeling anti-Valentine’s this year? Check out Etsy’s A Very Jaded Valentine’s Day-Don’t know what to buy for your guy? Lots of ideas in this “Men of Etsy” forum post
And finally, I’ll be having my own little giveaway, or gift-away right here! Comment on this post from now until Feb. 1, and one commenter will receive one of the crochet cupcakes I’m selling seen here (red velvet, or chocolate-frosted). Make sure you leave some way for me to get in contact with you!

Oh, happy hearts. I love them. I love chocolate cupcakes, too.
January 15th, 2008 at 5:25 pm
Alicia, such cheerful pictures on your blog today. Who wouldn’t love a smiling heart or an adorable cupcake for Valentines? Too cute.
January 15th, 2008 at 9:03 pm
I guess family members are not eligible for the free gift, right? But, I’ll still say that your creations are the cutest, even if it doesn’t get me a prize. I guess I could buy one for Mom if I can’t get a free one.
January 15th, 2008 at 9:14 pm
Those are the cutest……any hints on where to get the cupcake pattern? Love the hearts too….would love to make them for my grandaughters kindergarden class!!!! If I don’t win one, how can I buy one and the heart also? Thanks
January 15th, 2008 at 9:15 pm
Those hearts are too cute. I am with you… sometimes low key is better. At home, just enjoying the company of those you love!

You have brilliantly cute designs and the right attitude towards a day that the card/chocolate companies have perverted.
Thanks!

It’s fun to know that others are doing the same. A few years ago I did a valentine making tea party with friends. You’ve inspired me to do it again! Thank you for sharing your little friends!

What a creative, cute idea you have come up with. I think it especially nice for those who can’t eat sweets (diabetics)! As well as a lasting memento from a loving heart.
January 17th, 2008 at 3:27 pm
Such darling creations! Especially, with my New Year’s Resolution to get in shape, this would be the sweetest gift to get for Valentine’s Day. Do you think you will create more of these “goodies” for birthdays or other holidays?
January 17th, 2008 at 4:00 pm
Sooo cool, llinked my gf to these
January 17th, 2008 at 4:11 pm
How cute! Yes! It would be so sweet to “serve” a plate of these for every holiday/birthdays. Maybe the frosting could be a lid, and the pretty bits on top could be changeable, somehow (is velcro too lame?), for each holiday.
January 17th, 2008 at 4:17 pm
Well, your little cupcakes are adorable. Absolutely.
January 17th, 2008 at 4:52 pm

Those cupcakes and heart friends are adorable! Valentines day really does take on a new meaning as you age. I’m still fairly young but the responsibilities of wife and mommy to two do age you for the wiser. I need to have fun craft giveaways too! I’m always making something so I should share the joy. Thanks for sharing yours!
