They have short natural lives (only two or three years, even for the giant species) but they're *neat*: They're intelligent and unusual and fascinating. For some reason, a halibut doesn't do it for me like an octopus does. Sometimes that strikes me as a moral failing; why doesn't the halibut get my protection?
